The first British-led expedition to gather meteorites in the Antarctic has returned with a haul of 36 space rocks.

The three main types of meteorites according to the Natural History Museum are:
- iron - almost made of metal
- stony-iron - has a composition of equal mounts of metal and silicate crystals
- stony - has mainly silicate minerals
